New fire-retardant standards in the United States were introduced in 2007. Currently, most manufacturers of traditional mattresses are meeting these national safety requirements and standards by heavily spraying their mattresses with toxic chemical used as fire retardants. Non-organic manufacturers are NOT required to disclose these chemicals, despite using 8 times more than any other first-world western countries.
Organic mattresses meet all fire-retandant standards without any sprayed on chemicals or off gasing. Additionally, most organic mattresses use organic wool, which provides a cooler, drier sleep. This infographic provides a visual and detailed comparison of traditional and organic mattresses.
