Single Status Certificate (CENOMAR) is an essential document for the NRIs who intend to settle abroad after wedding. The governments of certain countries, like Philippines, Indonesia, Canada and Manila etc., ask for it to prove migrants’ legal capacity of marriage. Certain puzzles engulf one’s mind, like what legalities to face, from where to get it, whom to contact, whether to visit foreign consul, what’s its fee and if it expires. Registering and filling its application online are easy now. Visiting the Indian Embassy site abroad provides downloading option. First, download the affidavit. Fill it completely mentioning name, address and DOB etc., scan its copy and sign it. Forward it to the consulate office online. The final step will ask for online transaction of its fee. Paying its requisite fee, the NRI applicant can fix his/her date of appointment with the consul. It is mandatory to face off the officials there for final stamp. The screening will take at least one hour. Thereafter, the certificate is verified and then, sent to the applicant later. It’s the mandatory process.

The attestation of Single Status Certificate and other documents is delegated to signatories in Ministry of External Affairs, Sub-Divisional Magistrate of the state, Commissioner, Magistrate of the court, Deputy Commissioner, Resident Commissioner, Chief Secretary, Joint Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Director or Deputy Director.
